OneMa1ze thanks school board members for volunteerism, leadership
Maize USD 266 expresses gratitude to three members of the Maize Board of Education who are drawing near to the end of their terms. They each were recognized during the regular monthly meeting Dec. 13.
A special thank you to Richard Stiverson for his tremendous and lengthy service to the OneMa1ze community. He has served as a board member for 40 years, beginning in July 1981! His volunteer hours to the community would be difficult to calculate. Consider his leadership terms alone.
Maize Board of Education Vice President terms:
- July 1983 - June 1984
- July 1989 - June 1991
- July 1999 - June 2000
- July 2009 - June 2010
- July 2020 - June 2021
Maize Board of Education President terms:
- July 1985 - June 1986
- July 1991 - June 1996
- July 2000 - June 2001
- July 2010 - June 2011
During the meeting, Mr. Stiverson shared that the district only had 1,300 students and two schools, Vermillion and the high school, when he began his board service. Under his leadership, the district has grown to more than 8,100 students and a preschool; five elementary schools; two intermediate schools; two middle schools; three high schools, including Complete High School Maize alternative high school; the Maize Career Academy, and the Maize Virtual Preparatory School.
The district honored Kate Doerksen, who was appointed to fill a vacant seat and was later elected to the school board and has served since August 2015. She served as vice president from July 2018 to June 2020 and as president from July 2020 to June 2021.
The district also thanked Farris Jibril, who has served on the board since January 2018.
Thank you to each board member for their leadership and dedication to Maize USD 266 and its students, employees, and families!
