2023 Celebrating Excellence in Support Services

Shelley Funk, Maize Middle School nurse, joined the Maize district after being persuaded by her daughter, who previously taught at MMS, to apply so they could work together. After 32 years of being a nurse in a family practice office, she decided it was time to change course. Now, she loves knowing she is making a difference in her students’ lives, whether making them smile or giving them a little TLC.

“The best part of my job is seeing the changes in their abilities throughout middle school, whether medically, emotionally, or physically,” she said. “Kids need adults to show up for them that are a positive influence and someone to let them know they care. “

Maize Middle School Principal Marney Hay shared, “Shelly has a heart of gold and is always looking for ways to support students, staff, and families as a need arises and goes above and beyond when dealing with health issues.”
