• Community

Maize, Kansas is a friendly small town located just seven miles from the Wichita metropolitan area. The schools stand at the heart of community life in Maize. Academic, artistic, athletic and musical achievements of young people create a spirit of involvement that extends to young and old alike. For this reason, Maize offers the advantages of small-town living, with the benefits of close proximity to all of the amenities that a larger city has to offer.

    Community Programs and Successes

The Maize School district believes community service is an extremely important part of a student’s education and that all students should have an opportunity to take part in a community service project.

    • The Maize Lions Club organizes the Caring Hearts program to gather donations of food and gifts for school district families in need during the holiday season. The club also supports the school system by partnering with the high school band program during their annual fireworks sale in July. Students volunteer their time to staff the fireworks tent and the Lions Club share the proceeds from the event to help offset band trip expenses for students.
    • The Maize Recreation Commission offers a wide variety of programs and activities for young and old alike in the community. From babysitter training classes to adult painting classes, all are guaranteed to find something of interest!
    • The Maize Area Chamber of Commerce exists to enhance and improve the Maize business environment in order to promote the economic well being of all citizens, to enhance the quality of life for the entire community, and to communicate the views of the business community.
